The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A man may utter a word to make his companions laugh, and by it he plunges farther than the Pleiades."
عن رسول الله ﷺ قال: إن الرجل ليتكلم بالكلمة يضحك بها جلساءه يهوي بها من أبعد من الثريا.
Abdullah bin Mubarak narrated it in Az-Zuhd (948), and from his route Imam Ahmad (9220) and Ibn Hibban (5716), from Zubayr bin Saeed, from Safwan bin Salim, from Ata bin Yasar, from Abu Hurairah, who said, and then he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Zubayr bin Saeed, for there is disagreement about him, though his hadith is hasan when it does not contradict other reports and there is no objectionable element in it, and this is such a case. The meaning of the hadith is that he exaggerates in his speech, or lies, in order to make people laugh.
