I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Woe to the one who tells a story to people and lies to make them laugh. Woe to him, woe to him."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: ويل للذي يحدث القوم، ثم يكذب ليضحكهم ويل له، ويل له.
Reported by Abu Dawud (4990), Tirmidhi (2315), Ahmad (20021), Hakim (1/46), and Bayhaqi in al-Adab (374), all of them from the hadith of Bahz bin Hakeem, from his father, from his grandfather, and so he related it. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Bahz bin Hakeem and his father, for both of them are graded hasan in this hadith. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan hadith."
