The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say, "There is no hamah, no contagion, and no evil omen. But if there is anything in evil omens, it would be in the horse, the woman, and the house."
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يقول: لا هامة ولا عدوى، ولا طيرة، وإن تكن الطيرة في شيء ففي الفرس، والمرأة، والدار.
Reported by Abu Dawud (3921), with this wording, and Ahmad (1502), and Abu Yaala (766), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (6127). All of them narrated it through Yahya bin Abu Kathir, from Hadrami bin Lahiq, from Saeed bin Musayab, from Saad bin Malik (Abu Waqqas), who related it.Ahmad (1554) and Abu Yaala added, "If plague breaks out in a land, do not enter it, and if it breaks out in a land where you already are, do not flee from it." Its chain of transmission is hasan, due to Hadrami bin Lahiq, of whom Nasai said, "There is no harm in him."Through this same route, Imam Ahmad (1554) also reported from Saad bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say, "There is no hamah, no contagion, and no bad omens, and if there were any truth to bad omens, it would be found in the horse, the woman, and the house." He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no contagion, no bad omens, and no hamah, and if there were any truth to bad omens, it would be found in the horse, the woman, and the house."
