While the Prophet ﷺ was walking, a man came to him with a donkey and said, "Messenger of Allah, ride."The man stepped back, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You have more right to the front of your mount than I do, unless you give it up to me."The man said, "I give it up to you."So he rode it.
Tirmidhi (2773), Abu Dawud (2572), and Ahmad (22992) narrated it, and Ibn Hibban (4735) and Hakim (2/64) graded it sahih, all of them from the hadith of Husayn bin Waqid, who said, Abdullah bin Burayda told me, from his father, and he related it.Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan gharib hadith from this angle."Hakim said, "This is a sahih hadith meeting the criteria of Muslim."Its chain is hasan because of Husayn bin Waqid Marwazi. Ibn Main deemed him reliable, and Ahmad and Nasai said, "There is no harm in him."
