The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever plays with backgammon dice is as though he had dipped his hand in the flesh and blood of a pig."
أن النبي ﷺ قال: من لعب بالنردشير، فكأنما صبغ يده في لحم خنزير ودمه.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Poetry (2260) from Zuhayr bin Harb, who said, "Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi told us, from Sufyan, from Alqama bin Marthad, from Sulayman bin Burayda, from his father," and he mentioned it.His saying, "nardashir," nard is a foreign word that has been Arabized, and shir means sweet. Nardashir and chess are a type of gambling, and playing them is forbidden according to the majority of the scholars, except that some of the Shafiis did not hold them to be forbidden, but rather said they were merely disliked.
