Umm Sulaym used to spread out a leather mat for the Prophet ﷺ so he could take his afternoon nap at her home on that mat. While the Prophet ﷺ slept, she would collect drops of his sweat and strands of his hair, gathering them in a small flask, then mixing them into a perfume called sukk.When Anas bin Malik was nearing death, he instructed me to place some of that perfume into the burial scent prepared for his body, and so it was done.
أن أم سليم كانت تبسط للنبي ﷺ نطعا، فيقيل عندها على ذلك النطع قال: فإذا نام النبي ﷺ أخذت من عرقه وشعره، فجمعته في قارورة، ثم جمعته في سك، قال: فلما حضر أنس بن مالك الوفاة، أوصى إلي أن يجعل في حنوطه من ذلك السك، قال: فجعل في حنوطه.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Seeking Permission (6281) from Qutayba bin Saeed, Muhammad bin Abdullah Ansari narrated to us, he said, my father narrated to me, from Thumama, from Anas, and he mentioned it.Muslim narrated it in the Book of Virtues (2331) through other chains from Anas in a similar manner, both at length and in brief, but he did not mention Anas's bequest.As for his statement, "When death approached Anas," the speaker is Thumama bin Abdullah bin Anas bin Malik, who narrated from his grandfather Anas.
