Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Bakr reported,

Abu Bakr once hosted a group of guests, and he said to Abdul-Rahman, "Take care of your guests, for I am going to the Prophet ﷺ. Finish serving them their meal before I return."So Abdul-Rahman went and brought them what he had, saying, "Eat."They asked, "Where is the master of our host's house?"He said, "Eat."They replied, "We will not eat until the master of the house comes."He said, "Accept your meal from us, for if he comes and you have not eaten, we shall face his displeasure."But they refused. I knew he would be angry with me, so when he came, I withdrew from him.He asked, "What did you do?"They informed him, and he called, "Abdul-Rahman!"I remained silent.Then he called again, "Abdul-Rahman!"I remained silent.Then he said, "You fool! I adjure you, if you can hear my voice, come out!"So I came out and said, "Ask your guests."They said, "He is telling the truth. He brought it to us."He said, "You were only waiting for me. By Allah, I will not eat it tonight."The others said, "By Allah, we will not eat it until you eat."He said, "I have never seen an evening like this. Woe to you! What is the matter with you? Why do you not accept your meal from us? Bring me my food!"So it was brought to him, and he placed his hand in it and said, "In the name of Allah. The first portion was from Satan." Then he ate, and they ate.Muslim added, "When morning came, he went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'Messenger of Allah, they kept their oath and I broke mine.'" He then informed him of what had happened, and the Prophet said, "Rather, you are the most dutiful and the best of them." He said, "And no expiation reached me."

عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي بكر

أن أبا بكر تضيف رهطا، فقال لعبد الرحمن: دونك أضيافك، فإني منطلق إلى النبي ﷺ، فافرغ من قراهم قبل أن أجيء، فانطلق عبد الرحمن فأتاهم بما عنده، فقال: أطعموا، فقالوا: أين رب منزلنا، قال: أطعموا، قالوا: ما نحن باكلين حتى يجيء رب منزلنا، قال: اقبلوا عنا قراكم، فإنه إن جاء ولم تطعموالتلقين منه، فأبوا، فعرفت أنه يجد علي، فلما جاء تنحيت عنه، فقال: ماصنعتم، فأخبروه، فقال: يا عبد الرحمن، فسكت، ثم قال: يا عبد الرحمن، فسكت، فقال: يا غنثر، أقسمت عليك إن كنت تسمع صوتي لما جئت، فخرجت، فقلت: سل أضيافك، فقالوا: صدق، أتانا به، قال: فإنما انتظر تموني، والله لا أطعمه الليلة، فقال الآخرون: والله لا نطعمه حتى تطعمه، قال: لم أر في الشر كالليلة، ويلكم، ما أنتم؟ لم لا تقبلون عنا قراكم؟ هات طعامك، فجاءه، فوضع يده فقال: باسم الله، الأولى للشيطان، فأكل وأكلوا. وزاد مسلم: فلما أصبح غدا على النبي ﷺ فقال: يا رسول الله، بروا وحنثت، قال: فأخبره، فقال: بل أنت أبرهم وأخيرهم قال: ولم تبلغني كفارة.
