The Prophet ﷺ forbade drinking directly from the mouth of a waterskin, because that causes it to develop a foul smell.

Hakim (4/140) narrated it from Abdullah bin Husayn the judge, who said, Harith bin Abu Usama told us, Rawh bin Ubada told us, Hammad bin Salama told us, from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Ayesha, and he mentioned it.Abdul-Razzaq (19598) narrated it from Mamar, and Tahawi in Sharh Maani al-Athar (4/276) narrated it via Hammad, and Bayhaqi in Kubra (7/285) narrated it via Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Zinad, all of them from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, as a mursal report. None of these mentioned "Ayesha," and "Hammad" in Tahawi's chain was not identified by lineage, though most likely he is Hammad bin Salama, who narrated it once connected and once as mursal. The ruling goes to whoever connected it. Its chain of transmission is sahih, except that his saying, "for that will make him rotten," is shadhdh.Hakim said, "This is a hadith sahih in its chain of transmission."Ibn Hajar strengthened it in Fath al-Bari (10/79).
