The Prophet ﷺ said, "Tear meat off the bone with your teeth, for it is more wholesome and more pleasant."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: انهسوا اللحم نهسا؛ فإنه أهنأ وأمرا.
Tirmidhi (1835) and Ahmad (15300) both narrated it through the route of Sufyan bin Uyayna, from Abdul-Kareem bin Umaya, from Abdullah bin Harith, who said, "My father arranged my marriage and invited people, among them Safwan bin Umaya." Then he related the hadith. Tirmidhi said, "We do not know this hadith except through the report of Abdul-Kareem, and some scholars have made remarks about Abdul-Kareem the teacher, among them Ayub Sakhtiyani, regarding his memory."It has another route, which is what Abu Dawud (3779) narrated from Muhammad bin Isa, who said, Ibn Ulaya narrated to us, from Abdul-Rahman bin Ishaq, from Abdul-Rahman bin Muawiya, from Uthman bin Abu Sulayman, from Safwan bin Umaya, who said, "I was eating with the Prophet ﷺ, and I would take the meat from the bone with my hand, so he said, 'Bring the bone closer to your mouth, for it is more pleasant and more wholesome.'"Abdul-Rahman bin Muawiya is al-Zurqi Abu Huwayrith al-Madani, about whom there is disagreement, though his hadith is hasan when it does not contradict others. With these two chains combined, the hadith becomes hasan, Allah willing.Ibn Hajar also graded it hasan in Fath al-Bari (9/547), after saying, "Ibn Abu Asim also narrated it through another route from Safwan bin Umaya, so it is hasan."
