He saw the Prophet ﷺ cutting a piece from a shoulder of mutton he was holding in his hand. When he was called to prayer, he set it down along with the knife he was using to cut it, then got up and prayed without performing ablution.
أنه رأى النبي ﷺ لا يحتز من كتف شاة في يده، فدعي إلى الصلاة، فألقاها والسكين التي يحتز بها، ثم قام فصلى ولم يتوضأ.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Foods (5408), and Muslim in the Book of Menstruation (355), both from the hadith of Zuhri, from Jafar bin Amr bin Umaya Damri, from his father, and he mentioned it.As for what has been narrated from Ayesha, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not cut meat with a knife, for that is the practice of non-Arabs, but tear it with your teeth, for that is more wholesome and easier to digest," this is daif.Abu Dawud narrated it (3778) and said, "He is not strong." I say, he means Abu Mishar Sindi, who is daif by the agreement of the people of knowledge.
