The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you cook meat, add plenty of broth or water, for it goes further in reaching the neighbors."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إذا طبختم اللحم فأكثروا المرق أو الماء، فإنه أوسع أو أبلغ للجيران.
Ahmad (15030) narrated it from Yahya bin Saeed Umawi, who said, Amash narrated to us, saying, It reached me from Jabir bin Abdullah, who said, and then he mentioned it. This chain contains a disconnection, for Amash did not hear this hadith from Jabir. However, Tabarani narrated it in Al-Awsat (3615) from Rawh bin Faraj, who said, Yahya bin Sulayman Jafi narrated to us, saying, My uncle Amr bin Uthman narrated to us, saying, Abu Muslim, the guide of Amash, narrated to us, from Amash, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, who said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you cooks a pot, let him increase its broth, then let him give some of it to his neighbor."Abu Muslim, the guide of Amash, is Ubaydullah bin Saeed bin Muslim Jafi, who is daif according to the majority of scholars. He is corroborated by Abdul-Rahman bin Mughra, from Amash, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, as a marfu narration, "When you cook a pot, increase its water" or he said, "its broth, and look after your neighbors."Bazzar narrated it, Kashf Astar (1901), from Yusuf bin Musa, who said, Abdul-Rahman bin Mughra narrated to us with his chain. This Abdul-Rahman bin Mughra has been subject to some criticism regarding his narration from Amash. Haythami said in Al-Majma (5/19), "The men of Bazzar include Abdul-Rahman bin Mughra, whom Abu Zura and a group have deemed reliable, and there is some criticism of him that does not cause harm, while the rest of his men are the men of the Sahih."I say, each of the two narrations strengthens the other, since neither of the two narrators is accused, and with that the hadith becomes hasan by the standard of Tirmidhi. As for what is narrated from Abdullah Muzani, who said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you buys meat, let him increase its broth, and if he cannot find meat, let him obtain broth, for it is one of the two meats," this is daif.Tirmidhi (1832) and Hakim (4/130) both narrated it from the hadith of Muslim bin Ibrahim, who said, Muhammad bin Fadaa narrated to us, saying, My father narrated to me, from Alqama bin Abdullah Muzani, from his father, who said, and then he mentioned it.Tirmidhi said, "This is a gharib hadith, we do not know it except from this route, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Fadaa. Muhammad bin Fadaa is the interpreter, and Sulayman bin Harb has spoken critically of him. Alqama bin Abdullah is the brother of Bakr bin Abdullah Muzani."I say, Muhammad bin Fadaa, with fatha on the fa, Al-Azdi, Abu Bahr Al-Basri, has been declared daif by the majority of scholars, among them Ibn Main, Abu Zura, Abu Hatim, Nasai, Ibn Hibban, and others. As for Hakim, he said, "sahih in chain," but Dhahabi followed up on this and said, "Muhammad was declared daif by Ibn Main."
