She brought a young son of hers, who was not yet eating solid food, to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He seated him in his lap, and the boy urinated on his garment. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for water and sprinkled it over the spot without washing it.
أنها أتت بابن لها صغير لم يأكل الطعام إلى رسول الله ﷺ، فأجلسه في حجره، فبال على ثوبه، فدعا رسول الله ﷺ بماء، فنضحه ولم يغسله.
Malik narrated it in Kitab al-Tahara (110), from Ibn Shihab, from Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utba bin Masud, from Umm Qays, in the same manner.Bukhari narrated it in Kitab al-Wudu (223), from Abdullah bin Yusuf, from Malik, in the same manner.Muslim narrated it in Kitab al-Tahara (287), from Muhammad bin Rumh, who said, Layth informed us, from Ibn Shihab, in the same manner. In one of his versions it reads, "so he called for water and sprinkled it," and in another version, "so he sprinkled it on his garment and did not wash it thoroughly." In another version, it states that Umm Qays bint Mihsan was among the first women who emigrated and gave their pledge of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She was the sister of Ukkasha bin Mihsan, one of Banu Assad bin Khuzayma. He said, She told me that she brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a son of hers who had not yet reached the age of eating food.Sprinkling (nadh) means splashing water on something, without it amounting to a full washing.
