I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ urging kind treatment of the neighbor so often that I thought he was going to make him an heir.
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يوصي بالجار حتى ظننت أنه سيورثه.
Ahmad (22298) narrated it from Haywa bin Shurayh, who said, Baqiyyah narrated to us, who said, Muhammad bin Ziyad Alhani narrated to us, who said, I heard Abu Umama say, then he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Baqiyyah, who is Ibn Walid, and he has explicitly stated "narrated to us" at every stage of the chain.The well-known account in the hadiths is that Jibreel kept advising the Prophet ﷺ about the neighbor until he thought he would make him an heir. It appears that the Prophet ﷺ, in following Jibreel's example, kept emphasizing the instruction concerning the neighbor until some of the companions thought he would make him an heir.
