There was a woman in Makkah known for her wit and humor, and she came to stay with another woman who was just like her. Word of this reached Ayesha, who said, "My beloved spoke the truth. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Souls are like conscripted soldiers. Those that recognize one another grow close, and those that find one another strangers drift apart.'"
كان بمكة امرأة مزاحة فنزلت على امرأة مثلها، فبلغ ذلك عائشة، فقالت: صدق حبي، سمعت رسول الله ﷺ الله يقول: الأرواح جنود مجندة، فما تعارف منها ائتلف، وما تناكر منها اختلف.
Abu Yaala (4381) narrated it from Yahya bin Main, who said, Saeed bin Hakam narrated to us, Yahya bin Ayub narrated to us, who said, Yahya bin Saeed narrated to me, from Amra bint Abdul-Rahman, who said... and she mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Yahya bin Ayub Ghafiqi Misri, for his narrations are hasan.Haythami said in Majma (8/88), "Abu Yaala narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih."Bukhari narrated it in Adab al-Mufrad (900) from Abdullah, that is, Ibn Salih, who said, Layth narrated to me, from Yahya bin Saeed, from Amra, from Ayesha, similarly, but he did not mention the story. Then he narrated it from Saeed bin Abu Maryam, who said, Yahya bin Ayub narrated to us, from Yahya bin Saeed, with the same chain, but he did not give its wording, rather he referred back to the preceding hadith by saying, "similarly."The hadith without the story was mentioned by Bukhari in his Sahih, in the Book of the Prophets (3336), from Layth bin Saad as a suspended narration, and he likewise cited it as suspended from Yahya bin Ayub.
