Reported by Abu Dawud (5128), Tirmidhi (2822), and Ibn Majah (3745), all from the hadith of Shayban, from Abdul-Malik bin Umayr, from Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman, from Abu Hurairah, as mentioned. Its chain is hasan because of Abdul-Malik bin Umayr, whose memory had declined, though his hadith is otherwise hasan.Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan hadith. Several people have reported it from Shayban bin Abdul-Rahman Nahwi, and Shayban was a man of written records and his hadith is sahih. He was known by the kunya Abu Muawiya. Abdul-Jabbar bin Ala Attar narrated to us, from Sufyan bin Uyayna, who said, Abdul-Malik bin Umayr said, 'I narrate a hadith and do not drop a single letter from it.'" End of quote.Similar in meaning is what was reported from Abu Masud, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The one asked for advice is entrusted with trust."Reported by Ibn Majah (3746), Ahmad (22360), and Ibn Hibban (in Mawarid Zaman 1991, though this fell out of the printed editions), all through the route of Sharik, from Amash, from Abu Amr Shaybani, from Abu Masud, as mentioned. In its chain is Sharik, who is Sharik bin Abdullah Nakhai, a truthful narrator but weak in memory. Abu Dawud said, "He is trustworthy but makes mistakes when narrating from Amash."
