The first of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ to come to us were Musab bin Umayr and Ibn Umm Maktum, and they began teaching us the Quran. Then came Ammar, Bilal, and Saad. Then Umar bin Khattab came with a group of twenty. Then the Prophet ﷺ himself arrived. I never saw the people of Medina rejoice over anything as much as they rejoiced over his coming, to the point that I saw young girls and small boys saying, "This is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he has come!" He did not arrive until I had already learned "Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High" [Ala 87:1] along with other surahs like it.
أول من قدم علينا من أصحاب النبي ﷺ مصعب بن عمير وابن أم مكتوم، فجعلا يقرئاننا القرآن، ثم جاء عمار وبلال وسعد، ثم جاء عمر بن الخطاب في عشرين، ثم جاء النبي ﷺ، فما رأيت أهل المدينة فرحوا بشيء فرحهم به، حتى رأيت الولائد والصبيان يقولون: هذا رسول الله ﷺ قد جاء، فما جاء حتى قرأت: {سبح اسم ربك الأعلى} في سور مثلها.
