The Prophet ﷺ one day spat into his palm, placed his finger upon it, and said, "Allah says, 'Son of Adam, how can you outstrip Me when I created you from something like this? Then, when I shaped you and proportioned you, you walked about in two fine garments while the earth groaned beneath your tread. You gathered wealth and withheld it, until when your soul reached your throat you said, I will give in charity. But what time is this for charity?'"
أن النبي ﷺ بزق يوما في كفه، فوضع عليها أصبعه ثم قال: قال الله: ابن آدم! أنى تعجزني وقد خلقتك من مثل هذه، حتى إذا سويتك وعدلتك مشيت بين بردين وللأرض منك وئيد، فجمعت ومنعت حتى إذا بلغت التراقي قلت: أتصدق، وأنى أوان الصدقة؟
Ibn Majah (2707) and Ahmad (17842) narrated it, and this is his wording, and Hakim declared it sahih (2/502). All of them narrated it through various routes from Hurayz bin Uthman, from Abdul-Rahman bin Maysara, from Jubayr bin Nufayr, from Busr bin Hijash Qurashi, who said, and then he related it.Its isnad is sahih. Abdul-Rahman bin Maysara Hadrami Himsi was deemed trustworthy by Ibn Hibban and Ajli, and Abu Dawud said, "The teachers of Hurayz are all trustworthy." Hafiz declared it sahih in Isabah (644).
