When the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Madinah, the Emigrants came to him and said, "Messenger of Allah, we have never seen a people more generous when they have much, nor more willing to share when they have little, than the people among whom we now live. They have spared us the burden of labor and made us partners in their comforts, so much so that we fear they will take all the reward."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "No, not as long as you pray to Allah for them and praise them."
Tirmidhi (2487), Ahmad (13074, 13122), and Bayhaqi (6/183) narrated it through various routes from Humayd, from Anas, as mentioned, and the wording is Tirmidhi's. Abu Dawud (4812) also narrated it, in a shortened form, as did Hakim (2/63), both of them from the hadith of Hammad bin Salama, from Thabit, from Anas, as mentioned, in a shortened form. Tirmidhi said, "Hasan sahih, gharib from this angle." And Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim."
