When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Medina, the people rushed out toward him, and it was being said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has arrived, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has arrived, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has arrived." I came along with the crowd to get a look at him. When I gazed clearly upon the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I knew that his was not the face of a liar.The first words he spoke were, "People, spread the greeting of peace, feed others, pray during the night while people are asleep, and you will enter Paradise in peace."
لما قدم رسول الله ﷺ المدينة انجفل الناس إليه، وقيل: قدم رسول الله ﷺ، قدم رسول الله ﷺ، قدم رسول الله ﷺ، فجئت في الناس لأنظر إليه، فلما استثبت وجه رسول الله ﷺ عرفت أن وجهه ليس بوجه كذاب، وكان أول شيء تكلم به أن قال: أيها الناس أفشوا السلام، أطعموا الطعام، وصلوا والناس نيام، تدخلوا الجنة بسلام.
Tirmidhi (2485) and Ibn Majah (1334) both narrated it from the hadith of Ibn Saeed and others, from Awf bin Abu Jameela, from Zurara bin Awfa, from Abdullah bin Salam, who related it. Tirmidhi said, "Sahih."There are many hadiths on this subject, and they are recorded in the Book of Prayer.
