We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Dhul-Hulayfah when he came upon a dead sheep with its leg raised in the air. He said, "Do you think this carcass is worthless to its owner? By the One in whose hand my soul rests, this world is more insignificant to Allah than this carcass is to its owner. If this world were worth even a mosquito's wing to Allah, He would not give a disbeliever a single drop of water from it."
كنا مع رسول الله ﷺ بذي الحليفة، فإذا هو بشاة ميتة شائلة برجلها، فقال: أترون هذه هيئة على صاحبها؟ فوالذي نفسي بيده، للدنيا أهون على الله من هذه على صاحبها، ولو كانت الدنيا تزن عند الله جناح بعوضة، ما سقى كافرا منها قطرة أبدا.
Ibn Majah (4110) and Hakim (4/306) both narrated it through routes from Abu Yahya Zakariya bin Manzur, who said, Abu Hazim narrated to us, from Sahl bin Saad, who said, and he related it. Zakariya bin Manzur is al-Qurazi al-Madani, and he is daif, but he has been corroborated. Tirmidhi (2320) narrated it through the route of Abdul-Hameed bin Sulayman, and Tabarani in al-Kabir (6/219) through the route of Zama bin Salih, both of them (Abdul-Hameed and Zama) narrating from Abu Hazim, from Sahl bin Saad, and he related it.Abdul-Hameed bin Sulayman and Zama bin Salih are both daif but not suspected of fabrication, and with these corroborations the hadith rises to the level of hasan. Tirmidhi said, "This is a sahih hadith, gharib from this angle." And Hakim said, "This is a hadith with a sahih chain of transmission."
