Ubaydullah bin Ziyad visited Maqil bin Yasar during the illness from which he died. Maqil said to him, "I am going to tell you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, 'There is no servant whom Allah places in charge of a flock and who does not safeguard them with sincere counsel, except that he will not find the fragrance of Paradise.'"
أن عبيد الله بن زياد عاد معقل بن يسار في مرضه الذي مات فيه، فقال له معقل: إني محدثك حديثا سمعته من رسول الله ﷺ سمعت النبي ﷺ يقول: ما من عبد استرعاه الله رعية، فلم يحطها بنصيحة إلا لم يجد رائحة الجنة.
