Jareer bin Abdullah reported,

He said, "We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the early part of the day when a group of people came to him, barefoot, nearly naked, wearing striped woolen garments or cloaks, with swords slung over their shoulders. Most of them, indeed all of them, were from Mudar. The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed color when he saw the destitution they were in. He went inside, then came out and ordered Bilal to give the call to prayer. Bilal called the adhan and the iqamah, and the Prophet led the prayer. Then he gave a sermon and said, "People, be mindful of your Lord, who created you from a single soul," to the end of the verse, "Indeed, Allah is ever watchful over you" [Nisa 4:1], and the verse in Surah al-Hashr, "Be mindful of Allah, and let every soul consider what it has sent forward for tomorrow. And be mindful of Allah" [Hashr 59:18].He said, "Let a man give in charity from his dinar, from his dirham, from his garment, from a measure of his wheat, from a measure of his dates," and continued until he said, "even with half a date."A man from the Ansar then came with a bundle so heavy his hand could barely carry it, indeed it was unable to. Then the people followed in succession, until I saw two heaps gathered, one of food and one of clothing, and I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ glowing as if it were gilded with gold. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever establishes a good practice in Islam will have its reward and the reward of all who act on it after him, without anything being diminished from their rewards. And whoever establishes an evil practice in Islam will bear its burden and the burden of all who act on it after him, without anything being diminished from their burdens."

His saying, "Indeed, We give life to the dead, and We record what they have put forth and their traces, and all things We have enumerated in a clear register." His saying, "and We record what they have put forth and their traces" means We record their deeds which they performed themselves during their lives, and likewise We record the traces of their deeds during their lives and after their deaths, whether these deeds and traces are from the realm of good or from the realm of evil, all of it is recorded and written for them or against them
