The areas surrounding the mosque had become vacant, so Banu Salama wanted to move closer to the mosque. News of this reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said to them, "I have heard that you intend to move closer to the mosque?"They replied, "Yes, Messenger of Allah, that is what we wanted."He said, "Banu Salama, stay in your homes, your footsteps are recorded. Stay in your homes, your footsteps are recorded."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Mosques and Places of Prayer (665), from Muhammad bin Muthanna, who said, Abdul-Samad bin Abdul-Warith told us, saying, I heard my father narrating, he said, Jareeri told me, from Abu Nadra, from Jabir bin Abdullah, who said, then he mentioned it.He added, in another narration by a different route from Abu Nadra with the same wording, "They said, 'We would not have been pleased to have moved away.'"
