Abdullah bin Masud reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Our Lord عز وجل marvels at two men. A man who rises from his bed and blanket, leaving his family and his beloved, to perform his prayer. Our Lord says, 'My angels, look at My servant. He has risen from his bed and his blanket, leaving his beloved and his family, to perform his prayer, out of desire for what is with Me and out of awe of what is with Me.'And a man who fights in the path of Allah عز وجل, and his companions are routed. He knows the consequence of fleeing and the reward of returning, so he returns until his blood is shed, out of desire for what is with Me and out of awe of what is with Me. So Allah عز وجل says to His angels, 'Look at My servant. He returned out of desire for what is with Me and fear of what is with Me, until his blood was shed.'"
