The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Hold fast to praying at night, for it was the practice of the righteous before you. It draws you near to your Lord, wipes away misdeeds, and keeps you from sin."
عن رسول الله ﷺ أنه قال: عليكم بقيام الليل، فإنه دأب الصالحين قبلكم، وهو قربة إلى ربكم، ومكفرة للسيئات، ومنهاة للإثم.
Narrated by Tirmidhi (3549), Ibn Khuzayma (1135), and Hakim (1/308), all from the hadith of Abdullah bin Salih, who said, "Muawiya bin Salih related to me, from Rabia bin Yazid, from Abu Idris Khawlani, from Abu Umama," and he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Abdullah bin Salih, the scribe of Layth, whose hadith is hasan when he does not err. The discussion of him is set out in detail in the section on the prayer of tahajjud.
