Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to travel, he would draw lots among his wives, and on the expedition against Banu Mustaliq the lot fell to Ayesha. In the middle of the night, Ayesha went out to relieve herself, and her necklace came loose, so she went searching for it. Mistah was an orphan under Abu Bakr's care and lived in his household. When Ayesha returned, she did not find the army there. Safwan bin Muattal Sulami used to lag behind the people and pick up arrows, spears, and any equipment left behind, and I believe he said he would carry them along. He looked and saw it was Ayesha, so he covered, I believe he said, his face from her, then he brought his camel close to her. When he reached the army, people began to talk, or to spread rumors about her. Then he mentioned the rest of the story to the end.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would come and stand at the door and ask, "How is your friend?" Until one day he came and said, "Rejoice, Ayesha! Allah has revealed your innocence."She replied, "Praise be to Allah, not to you."Ten verses were revealed concerning this, "Indeed, those who came with the falsehood are a group among you" [Nur 24:11].The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then carried out the prescribed punishment on Mistah, Hamnah, and Hassan.

Bazzar (8011) narrated it, and this is his wording, as did Abu Yaala (307) and Tabarani in Al-Kabir (23/129), all of them through the route of Amr bin Khalifa Bakrawi, who said, "Muhammad bin Amr narrated to us, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah," who said, and then he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Amr bin Khalifa Bakrawi and his teacher Muhammad bin Amr, who is Ibn Alqama, for both of them are hasan al-hadith.
