I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say from this very pulpit, "People, beware of speaking too much about me. Whoever speaks on my behalf must say nothing but the truth, or what is accurate. Whoever attributes to me what I did not say, let him take his seat in the Fire."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول على هذا المنبر: يا أيها الناس إياكم وكثرة الحديث عني، من قال علي فلا يقولن إلا حقا- أو صدقا- فمن قال علي ما لم أقل، فليتبوأ مقعده من النار.
Ibn Majah (35) narrated it from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, from Yahya bin Yaala Tamimi, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Mabad bin Kaab, from Abu Qatada, who then related the hadith. Its chain is hasan, because of Mabad bin Kaab, for he does not fall below the level of hasan, since Ajli deemed him trustworthy, Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators, both authors of the Sahih collections narrated from him, no one has criticized him, and he has not brought forth anything that is deemed objectionable.As for Muhammad bin Ishaq, he is a mudallis, but he has clarified that he heard it directly in the narration of Imam Ahmad (22538), which removes the possibility of tadlis.
