Allah revealed the verse "And when Allah promised you that one of the two parties would be yours" [Anfal 8:7]. When we were promised that one of the two parties would be ours, our hearts were set at ease. The two parties were the caravan of Abu Sufyan and the Quraysh.
أنزل الله عز وجل {وإذ يعدكم الله إحدى الطائفتين أنها لكم}، قلما وعدنا إحدى الطائفتين أنها لنا طابت أنفسنا. و الطائفتان: عير أبي سفيان أو قريش.

Tabari narrated it in his Tafsir (11/47), and Ibn Abu Hatim in his Tafsir (8817), both through the route of Abdullah bin Wahb, from Ibn Lahia, from Yazid bin Abu Habib, that Aslam Abu Imran Tujaybi told him that he heard Abu Ayub Ansari say, then he mentioned it.Its isnad is hasan, given the discussion surrounding Ibn Lahia, since this is a narration transmitted by Abdullah bin Wahb from him.His words "other than the one having the thorn" [Anfal 8:7] mean the caravan in which there was no fighting. "The thorn" means hardship, and it is also said to mean weapon. And His words "and Allah wanted to establish the truth by His words" [Anfal 8:7], and it happened just as Allah willed .That was at the Battle of Badr, which took place in the second year after the Hijrah, on a Friday, the morning of the seventeenth of Ramadan.
