He had witnessed Badr and was one of the chiefs on the night of Uqba. He reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, with a group of his companions around him, said, "Pledge allegiance to me that you will not associate anything with Allah, you will not steal, you will not commit adultery, you will not kill your children, you will not utter slander that you have fabricated between your hands and your feet, and you will not disobey in what is right. Whoever among you fulfills this, his reward is with Allah. Whoever commits any of these and is punished for it in this world, that punishment is an expiation for him. And whoever commits any of these and Allah conceals it, his affair is with Allah. If He wills, He forgives him, and if He wills, He punishes him."So we pledged allegiance to him on that.
- وكان شهد بدرا، وهو أحد النقباء ليلة العقبة- أن رسول الله ﷺ قال وحوله عصابة من أصحابه: بايعوني على أن لا تشركوا بالله شيئا، ولا تسرقوا، ولا تزنوا، ولا تقتلوا أولادكم، ولا تأتوا ببهتان تفترونه بين أيديكم وأرجلكم، ولا تعصوا في معروف، فمن وفى منكم، فأجره على الله، ومن أصاب من ذلك شيئا، فعوقب في الدنيا، فهو كفارة له، ومن أصاب من ذلك شيئا، ثم ستره الله، فهو إلى الله، إن شاء عفا عنه، وإن شاء عاقبه. فبايعناه على ذلك.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Faith (18), and Muslim in the Book of Legal Punishments (1709), both from the hadith of Zuhri, from Abu Idris Aidullah bin Abdullah, from Ubada bin Samit, who mentioned it.Hakim narrated it (2/318) from the hadith of Sufyan bin Husayn Wasiti, from Zuhri, from Abu Idris, from Ubada bin Samit, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who will pledge allegiance to me on these verses," then he recited, "Say, come, I will recite what your Lord has forbidden to you" [Anam 6:151], until he finished the three verses. "Whoever fulfills this, his reward is upon Allah. Whoever falls short in something, and Allah brings this upon him in this world, that will be his punishment. And whoever's matter is deferred to the hereafter, his affair rests with Allah, if He wills He punishes him, and if He wills He forgives him."Hakim said, "This is a hadith sahih in its chain, though the two of them did not report it. They only agreed together on the hadith of Zuhri, from Abu Idris, from Ubada, 'Pledge allegiance to me that you will not associate anything with Allah.' Sufyan bin Husayn Wasiti narrated both hadiths from Zuhri, so it should not be attributed to error in one of the two hadiths when they are combined together." End of quote.I say, however Sufyan bin Husayn Wasiti is daif with regard to Zuhri, as the people of knowledge have stated, so his solitary narration from Zuhri is not accepted.
