The Prophet ﷺ said, "Learn enough of your lineages to maintain your family ties, for upholding kinship brings love among relatives, increases wealth, and extends one's lifespan."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: تعلموا من أنسابكم ما تصلون به أرحامكم؛ فإن صلة الرحم محبة في الأهل، مثراة في المال، منسأة في الأثر.
Tirmidhi (1979) narrated it from Ahmad bin Muhammad, who said, Abdullah bin Mubarak informed us, from Abdul-Malik bin Isa Thaqafi, from Yazid the freedman of Munbaith, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it. Its chain is hasan on account of Abdul-Malik bin Isa, for he is truthful, Allah willing, even though Hafiz said of him, "acceptable." A group of narrators besides the one who narrated from him also reported from him, and no one criticized him, and Abu Hatim said, "sound." As for Tirmidhi's statement, "gharib from this angle," he perhaps means that Abdul-Malik alone transmitted it.Hakim (4/161) graded it sahih, narrating it through the route of Ibn Mubarak with the same chain, then he said, "This is a sahih hadith meeting the criteria of the two Shaykhs, though they did not include it." This is an error on his part, for Abdul-Malik bin Isa Thaqafi was not included by the two Shaykhs at all, rather only Tirmidhi included him, according to the symbol Hafiz assigned him in Taqrib. His saying, "an extension in the trace," means an increase in one's lifespan.
