Abu Burda was a soothsayer who used to judge between the Jews in their disputes when they came to him. Some people from Aslam came to him to settle a dispute, so Allah the Exalted revealed, "Have you not seen those who claim..." [Nisa 4:60].
كان أبو بردة كاهنا يقضي بين اليهود فيما يتنافرون إليه، فتنافر إليه أناس من أسلم، فأنزل الله تعالى: {ألم تر إلى الذين يزعمون}.

Tabarani related it in al-Kabir (11/295) and Ibn Abu Hatim in his Tafsir (3/991), both through Abu Yaman Hakam bin Nafi, who said, Safwan bin Amr told us, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, who said, then he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.
