I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "The destruction of my nation lies in the Book and in milk."They asked, "Messenger of Allah, what do you mean by the Book and milk?"He replied, "They will learn the Quran and interpret it contrary to what Allah revealed, and they will love milk so much that they abandon the congregational and Friday prayers and move out to the desert."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: هلاك أمتي في الكتاب واللبن. قالوا: يا رسول الله، ما الكتاب واللبن؟ قال: يتعلمون القرآن فيتأولونه على غير ما أنزله الله، ويحبون اللبن فيدعون الجماعات والجمع ويبدون.
Ahmad narrated it (17415) from Abu Abdul-Rahman (Abdullah bin Yazid Muqri), who said, Ibn Lahia told us, from Abu Qabil, who said, "I heard nothing from Uqba bin Amir except this hadith." Ibn Lahia said, "Yazid bin Abu Habib also narrated it to me, from Abu Khayr, from Uqba bin Amir."Its isnad is hasan, Abdullah bin Yazid is one of the Abadila who heard from Ibn Lahia at an early period. Abu Yaala also transmitted it (1746), and Ibn Abdul-Barr in Jami Bayan Ilm (2359), both through Abu Abdul-Rahman Muqri, following only the first isnad.Tabarani narrated it (815-818) through other routes from Abu Qabil. Ibn Abdul-Barr also narrated it (2361) through Duhaym, who said, Abu Salih told us, from Layth bin Saad, from Abu Qabil, with this wording, "The thing I fear most for my nation is the Book and milk. As for milk, some people will go out seeking pasture for it because of their love for it, and they will abandon the communal prayers and Friday prayers. As for the Book, it will be opened up for some people who will use it to argue against those who believe."He also narrated it (2362) through Abu Samh, who said, Abu Qabil told us, with this account, containing, "As for the Quran, the hypocrites will learn it in order to argue against the believers with it. As for milk, they will follow the fertile pastures, following their desires, and abandon the prayers."
