The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever begs while possessing forty dirhams is being importunate, and what he takes is like swallowing a mouthful of hot ashes," meaning sand.
عن النبي ﷺ قال: من سأل وله أربعون درهما فهو ملحف، وهو مثل سف الملة يعني الرمل.
Nasai narrated it in Al-Kubra (2375) from Ahmad bin Sulayman, from Yahya bin Adam, from Sufyan, that is Ibn Uyayna, from Dawud bin Shabur, from Amr bin Shuayb, who related it. Its chain is hasan due to the discussion surrounding Amr bin Shuayb and his father, though this discussion does not prevent the hadith from being graded hasan.
