The Jews used to say that if a man had intercourse with his wife from behind, the child would be born cross-eyed. So the verse was revealed, "Your wives are a tilth for you, so come to your tilth as you wish" [Baqarah 2:223].
كانت اليهود تقول: إذا جامعها من ورائها جاء الولد أحول، فنزلت: {نساؤكم حرث لكم فأتوا حرثكم أنى شئتم}.
Bukhari narrated it in the Tafsir (4528) and Muslim in the Nikah (117:1435), both from the hadith of Sufyan, from Ibn Munkadir, who said, I heard Jabir say, then he mentioned it, and the wording given is that of Bukhari. In Muslim's wording, "If a man comes to his wife from behind her but in her front passage, the child would be cross-eyed."Ibn Abu Hatim narrated it in his Tafsir (2/404) through another route, from Ibn Jurayj and Sufyan bin Saeed Thawri, that Muhammad bin Munkadir told them, from Jabir bin Abdullah, then he mentioned it similarly.Ibn Jurayj said in the hadith, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whether facing her or from behind her, so long as that is in the front passage."
