The verse "And among the people is he who sells himself seeking the pleasure of Allah" [Baqarah 2:207] was revealed concerning the Prophet ﷺ. When the Prophet ﷺ saw him, meaning Suhayb, he said, "Abu Yahya, the transaction has been profitable!" Then he recited the verse to him.
نزلت على النبي ﷺ: {ومن الناس من يشرى نفسه ابتغاء مرضات الله} فلما رآه (أي صهيبا) النبي ﷺ قال: أبا يحيى ربح البيع قال: وتلا عليه الآية.

Reported by Hakim (3/398), from Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Abdullah Zahid, who said, Ismail bin Ishaq Qadi told us, Sulayman bin Harb told us, Hammad bin Salama told us, from Thabit, from Anas, and he related it. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim." It contains a story that Hakim mentioned (3/398) through the route of Sulayman bin Harb, who said, Hammad bin Zayd told us, from Ayub, from Ikrima, who said, when Suhayb set out migrating, the people of Makkah followed him. He emptied his quiver, taking out forty arrows from it, and said, "You will not reach me until I have placed an arrow in each of your men, and then I will resort to the sword after that, and you know that I am a man to be reckoned with. I have left behind in Makkah two slave girls, and they are yours."
