The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Umar to collect the alms. It was reported, "Ibn Jamil, Khalid bin Walid, and Abbas, the uncle of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, have refused to pay."The hadith was then mentioned, in which he said, "Umar, do you not realize that a man's paternal uncle is like his father?"
بعث رسول الله ﷺ عمر على الصدقة، فقيل: منع ابن جميل، وخالد بن الوليد، والعباس عم رسول الله ﷺ فذكر الحديث، وفيه: ثم قال: يا عمر، أما شعرت أن عم الرجل صنو أبيه.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Zakat (1468) and Muslim in the Book of Zakat (983-11), both through the route of Abu Zinad, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it. The wording given is Muslim's, and Bukhari's version does not include, "O Umar, do you not know that a man's paternal uncle is like his father?"His saying "sinw of his father" - the sinw means the equivalent, and it originally refers to two palm trees growing from a single root. The meaning of the hadith is that the paternal uncle is like the father in terms of honor and respect.
