Umar said, "I agreed with Allah in three matters," or "My Lord agreed with me in three matters. I said, 'Messenger of Allah, if only you would take the station of Ibrahim as a place of prayer.' And I said, 'Messenger of Allah, both the righteous and the wicked enter upon you, so if only you would command the Mothers of the Believers to observe the veil.' Then Allah revealed the verse of the veil."Umar continued, "Word reached me that the Prophet ﷺ had reproached some of his wives, so I went in to them and said, 'Either you stop, or Allah will give His Messenger ﷺ better wives in your place.' I went to one of his wives, and she said, 'Umar, does the Messenger of Allah ﷺ not have enough in himself to admonish his wives, that you must admonish them yourself?' Then Allah revealed, 'Perhaps his Lord, if he divorced you, would substitute for him wives better than you, submitting to Allah' [Tahrim 66:5]."
