The Prophet ﷺ said that Allah commanded the Children of Israil, "And enter the gate prostrating and say, 'Relieve us of our burdens'" [Baqarah 2:58].
عن النبي ﷺ: قال الله لبني إسرائيل: {وادخلوا الباب سجدا وقولوا حطة}.
Abu Dawud (4006) narrated it from Ahmad bin Salih and Sulayman bin Dawud, who said, Abdullah bin Wahb told us, Hisham bin Saad told us, from Zayd bin Aslam, from Ata bin Yasar, from Abu Saeed Khudri, who said, and then he mentioned it in this way. Abu Dawud said, Jafar bin Musafir also told us, Ibn Abu Fudayk told us, from Hisham bin Saad with his chain, similarly, in this same general and abbreviated form.Bazzar narrated it in detail in Kashf Astar (1812), from Ishaq bin Bahlul, who said, Muhammad bin Ismail bin Abu Fudayk told us, Hisham bin Saad told us, from Zayd bin Aslam, from Ata bin Yasar, from Abu Saeed, who said, we set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until, when we were at Usfan, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us, "The scouts of the polytheists are now at Dajnan, so which of you knows the way to Dhat al-Hanzal?" Then, when evening came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Is there a man who will get down and go ahead of the mounts?" A man said, "I will, Messenger of Allah." So he got down, and the stones kept striking him and the trees kept catching on his clothes, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Get back on." Then another man got down, and the stones kept striking him and the trees kept catching on his clothes, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Get back on." Then we came upon the road, and we traveled along it until we reached a mountain pass called Hanzal. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This pass is just like the gate that Banu Israil entered through, when they were told, "Enter the gate prostrating and say, hittah" [Baqarah 2:58], and no one will pass through this pass tonight without being forgiven."So the people began hurrying and passing through, and the last of them to pass was Qatada bin Numan, at the very rear of the group. He said, the people began riding one behind another until we all caught up with each other. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dismounted, and we dismounted with him.Bazzar said, we do not know of anyone who narrated it in this way except Muhammad bin Ismail. Haythami said in Majma (6/144), Bazzar narrated it, and its narrators are trustworthy. I say, its chain is hasan because of Muhammad bin Ismail bin Abu Fudayk, for his hadith is hasan. That is, they did the opposite of what they had been commanded to do and say. They had been commanded to prostrate, meaning to show humility, but they replaced prostration by crawling on their buttocks. And they had been commanded to say "hittah," meaning "forgiveness," but they replaced it with "hintah" (wheat), out of mockery and arrogance.
