Samura bin Jundab reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to often ask his companions, "Has any of you seen a dream?" Whoever Allah willed would relate his dream to him.One morning he said, "Last night two visitors came to me, and they roused me and said to me, 'Set out.' So I set out with them.We came upon a man lying down, and there was another man standing over him with a boulder. He would bring the boulder down on his head and crush it. The stone would roll away here, and he would follow the stone and pick it up, and before he returned to him, the man's head would have healed and become as it was. Then he would come back to him and do to him just as he had done the first time.I said to them, 'Glory be to Allah, what are these two?'They said to me, 'Move on, move on.'So we moved on and came upon a man lying flat on his back, with another man standing over him with an iron hook. He would come to one side of his face and tear his jaw open back to the nape, and his nostril back to the nape, and his eye back to the nape." Abu Raja sometimes said, "He would split it." "Then he would move to the other side and do to it just as he had done to the first side. He would not finish with that side before the first side had healed and become as it was, and then he would come back to him and do as he had done the first time.I said, 'Glory be to Allah, what are these two?'They said to me, 'Move on, move on.'So we moved on and came upon something like an oven." I think he said, "There was clamor and voices inside it. We looked into it, and there were naked men and women inside, and a flame would come up to them from below, and when that flame reached them, they screamed.I said to them, 'Who are these?'They said to me, 'Move on, move on.'So we moved on and came upon a river" — I think he said, "red like blood. In the river was a man swimming, and on the bank of the river was a man who had gathered many stones beside him. The swimmer would swim as much as he swam, then come to the one who had gathered the stones and open his mouth wide for him, and he would feed him a stone. Then he would go off and swim, then come back to him, and every time he returned to him, he would open his mouth and he would feed him a stone.I said to them, 'What are these two?'They said to me, 'Move on, move on.'So we moved on and came upon a man hideous in appearance, the most hideous man you could ever see. Beside him was a fire that he was kindling and running around.I said to them, 'What is this?'They said to me, 'Move on, move on.'So we moved on and came upon a lush meadow containing every color of spring. In the middle of the meadow was a tall man whose head I could scarcely see for his height into the sky, and around the man were the most children I had ever seen.I said to them, 'What is this, who are these?'They said to me, 'Move on, move on.'So we moved on and arrived at an immense meadow. I had never seen any meadow greater or more beautiful than it.They said to me, 'Climb up into it.'So we climbed up into it, and we arrived at a city built of bricks of gold and bricks of silver. We came to the gate of the city and asked for it to be opened, and it was opened for us. We entered it, and we were met by men, half of whose form was as beautiful as anything you could see, and half as ugly as anything you could see.They said to them, 'Go and plunge into that river.'There was a river running across, its water as if it were pure white. They went and plunged into it, then came back to us, and that ugliness had left them and they had become the most beautiful in form.They said to me, 'This is the Garden of Eden, and that is your dwelling.'My gaze rose upward, and there was a palace like a white cloud.They said to me, 'That is your dwelling.'I said to them, 'May Allah bless you both. Let me go and enter it.'They said, 'As for now, no, but you will enter it.'I said to them, 'I have seen wonders tonight. What is all that I have seen?'They said to me, 'We will tell you.As for the first man you came upon whose head was being crushed with the stone, he is the man who takes the Quran and rejects it and sleeps through the obligatory prayer.As for the man you came upon whose jaw was being torn open back to his nape, and his nostril back to his nape, and his eye back to his nape, he is the man who goes out from his house and tells a lie that reaches the horizons.As for the naked men and women in the structure like an oven, they are the male and female fornicators.As for the man you came upon swimming in the river and being fed stones, he consumed usury.As for the hideous man beside the fire, kindling it and running around it, he is Malik, the keeper of Hellfire.As for the tall man in the meadow, he is Ibrahim ﷺ. As for the children around him, they are every child who died upon the natural disposition.'"Some of the Muslims said, "Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the children of the polytheists?"The Messenger of Allah said, "And the children of the polytheists.As for the people who were half beautiful and half ugly, they are a people who mixed righteous deeds with others that were evil. Allah has pardoned them."

عن سمرة بن جندب قال

كان رسول الله ﷺ- يعني- مما يكثر أن يقول لأصحابه: هل رأى أحد منكم من رؤيا؟ قال: فيقص عليه من شاء الله أن يقص، وإنه قال ذات غداة: إنه أتاني الليلة، آيان، وإنهما ابتعثاني، وإنهما قالا لي: انطلق، وإني الطلقت معهما، وإنا أتينا على رجل مضطجع، وإذا آخر قائم عليه بصخرة، وإذا هو يهوي بالصخرة لرأسه، فيتلغ رأسه، فيتدهد الحجر ها هنا، فيتبع الحجر فيأخذه، فلا يرجع إليه حتى يصح رأسه كما كان، ثم يعود عليه، فيفعل به مثل ما فعل به المرة الأولى. قال: قلت لهما: سبحان الله ما هذان؟ قال: قالا لي: انطلق، انطلق قال: فانطلقنا، فأتينا على رجل مستلق لقفاه، وإذا آخر قائم عليه بكلوب من حديد، وإذا هو يأتي أحد شقي وجهه فيشر شر شدقه إلى قفاه، ومنخره إلى قفاه، وعينه إلى قفاه- قال: وربما قال أبو رجاء: فيشق- قال: ثم يتحول إلى الجانب الآخر، فيفعل به مثل ما فعل بالجانب الأول، فما يفرغ من ذلك الجانب حتى يصح ذلك الجانب كما كان، ثم يعود عليه فيفعل مثل ما فعل المرة الأولى، قال: قلت: سبحان الله ما هذان؟ قال: قالا لي: انطلي انطلق، فانطلقنا، فأتينا على مثل التنور قال: وأحسب أنه كان يقول-: فإذا فيه لغط وأصوات، قال: فاطلعنا فيه، فإذا فيه رجال ونساء عراق، وإذا هم يأتيهم لهب من أسفل منهم، فإذا أناهم ذلك اللهب ضوضوا، قال: قلت لهما: ما هؤلاء؟ قال: قالا لي: انطلق انطلق، قال: فانطلقنا فأتينا على نهر- حسبت أنه كان يقول- أحمر مثل الدم، وإذا في النهر رجل سابح يسبح، وإذا على شط النهر رجل قد جمع عنده حجارة كثيرة، وإذا ذلك السابح يسبح ما يسبح، ثم يأتي ذلك الذي قد جمع عنده الحجارة فيفغر له فاه فيلقمه حجرا فينطلق يسبح، ثم يرجع إليه، كلما رجع إليه فغر له فاه فألقمه حجرا، قال: قلت لهما: ما هذان؟ قال: قالا لي: انطلق انطلق. قال: فانطلقنا فأتينا على رجل كريه المرأة كأكره ما أنت راء رجلا مرأة، فإذا عنده نار يحشها ويسعى حولها، قال: قلت لهما: ما هذا؟ قال: قالا لي: انطلق انطلق، فانطلقنا، فأتينا على روضة معتمة، فيها من كل لون الربيع، وإذا بين ظهري الروضة رجل طويل، لا أكاد أرى رأسه طولا في السماء، وإذا حول الرجل من أكثر ولدان رأيتهم قط، قال: قلت لهما: ما هذا، ما هؤلاء؟ قال: قالا لي: انطلق انطلق، قال: فانطلقنا فانتهينا إلى روضة عظيمة، لم أر روضة قط أعظم منها ولا أحسن، قال: قالا لي: ارق فيها، قال: فارتقينا فيها، فانتهينا إلى مدينة مبنية بلبن ذهب ولبن فضة، فأتينا باب المدينة فاستفتحنا ففتح لنا، فدخلناها، فتلقانا فيها رجال شطر من خلقهم كأحسن ما أنت راء، وشطر كأقبح ما أنت راء، قال: قالا لهم: اذهبوا، فقعوا في ذلك النهر. قال: وإذا نهر معترض يجري كأن ماءه المحض في البياض، فذهبوا فوقعوا فيه، ثم رجعوا إلينا قد ذهب ذلك السوء عنهم، فصاروا في أحسن صورة، قال: قالا لي: هذه جنة عدن، وهذاك منزلك. قال: فسما بصري صعدا، فإذا قصر مثل الربابة البيضاء، قال: قالا لي: هذاك منزلك. قال: قلت لهما: بارك الله فيكما، ذراني فأدخله. قالا: أما الآن فلا، وأنت داخله، قال: قلت لهما: فإني قد رأيت منذ الليلة عجبا، فما هذا الذي رأيت؟ قال: قالا لي: أما إنا سنخبرك، أما الرجل الأول الذي أتيت عليه يتلع رأسه بالحجر، فإنه الرجل يأخذ القرآن فيرفضه وينام عن الصلاة المكتوبة، وأما الرجل الذي أتيت عليه يشر شر شدقه إلى قفاه، ومنخره إلى قفاه، وعينه إلى قفاه، فإنه الرجل يعدو من بينه فيكذب الكذبة تبلغ الآفاق، وأما الرجال والنساء العراة الذين في مثل بناء التنور فإنهم الزناة والزواني، وأما الرجل الذي أتيت عليه يسبح في النهر ويلقم الحجر، فإنه أكل الربا، وأما الرجل الكريم المرآة الذي عند النار يحثها ويسعى حولها، فإنه مالك خازن جهنم، وأما الرجل الطويل الذي في الروضة فإنه إبراهيم ﷺ، وأما الولدان الذين حوله فكل مولود مات على الفطرة. قال: فقال بعض المسلمين: يا رسول الله ﷺ، وأولاد المشركين؟ فقال رسول الله: وأولاد المشركين. وأما القوم الذين كانوا شطر منهم حسن وشطر منهم قبيح، فإنهم قوم خلطوا عملا صالحا وآخر سيئا، تجاوز الله عنهم.
