The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to visit Umm Salama. Ibn Abu Ghaniya said, he came in to visit Ayesha, while there was a small boy whose nostrils were streaming with blood. Abu Muawiya said in his version, with her was a small boy whose nostrils were gushing blood. He asked, "What is wrong with him?"They replied, "He is suffering from throat pain."He said, "Why do you torment your children? It is enough for any one of you to take some Indian costus, grind it with water seven times, and then pour it down his throat." Ibn Abu Ghaniya said, "and then administer it through his nose."So they did, and the boy recovered.
Ahmad (14385), Bazzar - Kashf Astar (3024), and Hakim (4/205) all narrated it through the route of Amash, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, who said, and he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih. However, Jabir heard it from Ayesha, as shown in the following narration.Nasai narrated it in Kubra (7541), and Abu Naeem in Tibb Nabawi (246), both through the route of Abdul-Aziz Darawardi, from Musa bin Uqba, from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir, from Ayesha, that the Prophet ﷺ saw a boy who had been given aloeswood treatment for a swelling in his throat, and he said, "Why do you kill your children this way? You should use Indian costus with water, then apply it as nasal drops." Its chain is hasan because of Darawardi, and it is strengthened by what Bazzar narrated in Kashf Astar (3025) from Umar bin Shabba, who said, Abdullah bin Raja narrated to us, who said, Masudi narrated to us, from Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Ayesha, who said, and she mentioned it. At the end of it was, "For in it there is a cure for seven ailments, one of which is pleurisy."Masudi is Abdul-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Utba bin Abdullah bin Masud Kufi, who was truthful but whose memory became confused before his death. However, Abdullah bin Raja was among those who heard from him before this confusion set in. From this it becomes clear that the hadith is Ayesha's hadith, not Jabir's hadith, but rather Jabir heard it from Ayesha, and he narrated it sometimes mentioning her and sometimes without mentioning her. This method was well known among the companions. For this reason Abu Hatim said in Ilal (2563), "The sahih version is Jabir, from Ayesha, from the Prophet ﷺ."His statement, "his nostrils flowed," means it ran.
