The Prophet ﷺ gave the family of Hazm permission to use a healing incantation against snakebite. He said to Asma bint Umays, "Why do I see the bodies of my nephews so frail? Are they suffering from need?"She replied, "No, but the evil eye reaches them quickly."He said, "Recite a healing incantation over them."She said, "I recited it to him," and he said, "Recite it over them."
رخص النبي ﷺ لآل حزم في رقية الحية، وقال لأسماء بنت عميس: ما لي أرى أجسام بني أخي ضارعة تصيبهم الحاجة. قالت: لا ولكن العين تسرع إليهم قال: ارقيهم. قالت: فعرضت عليه، فقال: ارقيهم.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Salam (2198) from Uqba bin Mukram Ammi, who said, Abu Asim told us, from Ibn Jurayj, who said, Abu Zubayr informed me that he heard Jabir bin Abdullah, and he related it.His saying "emaciated" means thin. His saying "my nephews" refers to the sons of Jafar bin Abu Talib, who had three children, Abdullah, Awn, and Muhammad, and the line continued through Abdullah (Tanbih Muallim 911). His saying "need" means poverty, for orphanhood is usually the place of poverty.
