The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to seek protection from the evil eye of the jinn and the evil eye of humans until the two surahs of refuge were revealed. Once they were revealed, he relied on them and left aside everything else.
كان رسول الله ﷺ يتعوذ من عين الجان، وعين الإنس حتى نزلت المعوذتان، فلما نزلتا أخذ بهما، وترك ما سواهما.
Tirmidhi (2058) narrated it via Qasim bin Malik Muzani, and Nasai (5494), Ibn Majah (3511), and Bayhaqi in al-Dawaat (364) narrated it via Abbad bin Awwam, both of them from Jareeri, from Abu Nadra, from Abu Saeed, who related it.Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan gharib hadith."I say, its chain includes Jareeri, who is Saeed bin Iyas, and he became confused in his memory toward the end of his life, and the narration of Qasim bin Malik Muzani and Abbad bin Awwam from him were not distinguished as to whether they came before or after that confusion set in. However, given that this hadith of his has an established basis, it appears that he did not narrate it while confused, even though those who transmitted from him were not distinguished in this regard. Moreover, he is trustworthy, and a group of scholars affirmed his reliability.
