Ammar bin Yasir led us in a prayer and made it brief. Some of the people remarked, "You shortened the prayer," or "You made it brief."He replied, "Even so, I supplicated within it with supplications I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."When he stood up, one of the people followed him. It was Ubayy himself, though he referred to himself indirectly. He asked him about the supplication, then came back and informed the people of it."O Allah, by Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over creation, keep me alive so long as You know that life is best for me, and take me when You know that death is best for me. O Allah, I ask You for awe of You in private and in public, and I ask You for the word of truth in pleasure and in anger, and I ask You for moderation in poverty and in wealth. I ask You for blessings that never cease, and I ask You for delight of the eye that never ends. I ask You for contentment after Your decree, and I ask You for the coolness of life after death. I ask You for the pleasure of gazing upon Your face and the longing to meet You, free from any harmful affliction or misleading trial. O Allah, adorn us with the beauty of faith, and make us guides who are themselves rightly guided."
Sahih. Narrated by Nasai (1305) from Yahya bin Habib bin Arabi, who said, "Hammad narrated to us, who said, 'Ata bin Saaib narrated to us,'" and he related it. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih in Kitab al-Tawhid (12), and from him Ibn Hibban in his Sahih (1971), and Hakim (1/524), all of them through the route of Hammad bin Zayd, with his chain of transmission. Hakim said, "This is a hadith sahih in its chain of transmission."I say, it is as he said, for Ata bin Saaib is trustworthy, the leading scholars affirmed his trustworthiness, except that he became confused in his later years, but Hammad bin Zayd narrated from him before his confusion set in.
