A man came begging during the time of the Prophet ﷺ, and the people held back from giving him anything. Then one man gave him something, and so the others gave as well. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever introduces a good practice in Islam that is then acted upon will receive its reward and the reward of those who act upon it, without anything being diminished from their rewards. And whoever introduces an evil practice in Islam that is then acted upon after him will bear its burden and the burden of those who act upon it, without anything being diminished from their burdens."
Imam Ahmad narrated it (23289), as did Bazzar in Kashf Astar (150), and Tabarani in Al-Awsat (Majma Bahrayn, 238), all of them from the hadith of Muhammad bin Sirin, from Abu Ubayda bin Huzaifa, from his father, and he related the hadith. Its isnad is hasan because of Abu Ubayda, whose name is not known, but Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators (5/597), and no criticism or break in the chain is known regarding him. This is the hadith of the household, and it has a basis. As for what has been narrated from Anas bin Malik, who said, a man came to the Prophet ﷺ asking him for a mount, but he did not have anything with him to give him. So he directed him to someone else, who gave him a mount. The man then came back to the Prophet ﷺ and told him, so he said, "The one who directs to good is like the one who does it." This is daif.Tirmidhi narrated it (2670) from Nasr bin Abdul-Rahman Kufi, who said, Ahmad bin Bishr told us, from Shabib bin Bishr, from Anas bin Malik, and he related it. Tirmidhi said, "This is a gharib hadith from this route, from the hadith of Anas from the Prophet ﷺ." This is an indication of weakening this hadith from this route, because there is some discussion regarding some of its narrators.Ahmad bin Bishr is al-Makhzumi, Abu Bakr al-Kufi. Ibn Main said, there is nothing wrong with his hadith. Nasai said, he is not that strong, and in another report, there is nothing wrong with him. Daraqutni said, daif, though his hadith may be taken into consideration. Also in it is Shabib bin Bishr, who is Abu Bishr al-Kufi. No one confirmed his reliability except Ibn Main. Bukhari said, his hadith is munkar. Abu Hatim said, his hadith is weak, and his hadith is the hadith of the elders. Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators, and said, he errs frequently. Ibn Adi said, he is among those whose hadith is written down.
