A man came to the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ urged the people to give to him.A man said, "I have such and such to give."Not a single person remained in the gathering without giving him something in charity, whether little or much.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Whoever sets a good precedent that others follow will receive his full reward, along with a share equal to the rewards of those who follow him, without anything being diminished from their rewards. And whoever sets a bad precedent that others follow will bear his full sin, along with a share equal to the sins of those who follow him, without anything being diminished from their sins."
جاء رجل إلى النبي ﷺ فحت عليه، فقال رجل: عندي كذا وكذا، قال: فما بقي في المجلس رجل إلا تصدق عليه بما قل أو كثر، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: من استن خيرا فاستن به، كان له أجره كاملا، ومن أجور من استن به ولا ينقص من أجورهم شيئا، ومن استن سنة سيئة، فاستن، به فعليه وزره كاملا، ومن أوزار الذي استن به، ولا ينقص من أوزارهم شيئا.
Ibn Majah (204) narrated it from Abdul-Warith bin Abdul-Samad bin Abdul-Warith, from his father, who said, my father told me, from Ayub, from Muhammad bin Sirin, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it, and its chain of transmission is sahih, and Busiri declared it sahih in Zawaid. It is also found in Musnad Ahmad (10749) from Abdul-Samad, with his chain of transmission, similarly.
