We came back with the Prophet ﷺ from the expedition of Tabuk. When we came within sight of Madinah, he said, "This is Tabah, and this is Uhud, a mountain that loves us and that we love."
أقبلنا مع النبي ﷺ من غزوة تبوك، حتى إذا أشرفنا على المدينة قال: هذه طابة، وهذا أحد جبل يحبنا ونحبه.
Bukhari reported it in the Book of Military Expeditions (4422), and this is his wording, and Muslim reported it in the Book of Hajj (1392:503), both of them through Sulayman bin Bilal, who said, Amr bin Yahya narrated to me, from Abbas bin Sahl bin Saad, from Abu Humayd, who said, and then he mentioned the hadith. In Muslim's wording, he said, "We set out with the Messenger of Allah on the expedition to Tabuk," and he continued the hadith, and in it, "Then we came back until we arrived at Wadi Qura, and the Messenger of Allah said, 'I am going ahead quickly, so whoever among you wishes may hasten along with me, and whoever wishes may stay behind.'" Then he related the rest of the hadith in the same way.
