The Prophet ﷺ said, "Adam and Musa, peace be upon them both, debated with one another. Musa said to Adam, 'You are Adam, whom Allah created with His own hand and into whom He breathed of His spirit'" and I think he said, "'and He commanded the angels and they prostrated to you. Yet you brought your offspring out of Paradise.'"Adam replied, 'Do you find that it was written down against me?'"Musa said, 'Yes.'"So Adam won the argument against Musa."
عن أبي سعيد الخدي، عن النبي ﷺ قال (فذكره بنحو حديث أبي معاوية).
Bazzar narrated it in Kashf Astar (2147) from Muhammad bin Muthanna, who said, Muaz bin Asad narrated to us, who said, Fadl bin Musa narrated to us, who said, Amash narrated to us, from Abu Salih, from Abu Saeed, and he mentioned the hadith, except that he did not give its wording, but rather said, "similar to the hadith of Abu Muawiya."Haythami said in Majma (1917), "Abu Yaala and Bazzar narrated it, and their narrators are the narrators of the Sahih."But Waki narrated it from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Saeed, as a mawquf narration attributed to him. Ibn Abu Asim narrated it in Sunnah (142) from Abu Musa and Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numayr, who both said, Waki narrated to us, with his chain, similarly.This chain is also sahih, but it should be treated as marfu in ruling. What appears to be the case is that Abu Salih used to narrate this hadith through two routes, once from Abu Hurairah, and another time from Abu Saeed Khudri, and both are sahih, since one of them does not invalidate the other.The hadith of Abu Saeed has other chains that are not sound. Among them is what Darimi narrated in Radd Ali Jahmiya (292) from Abu Salama, who said, Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, who said, Abu Harun narrated to us, from Abu Saeed, from the Prophetﷺ, similarly, and he added, "Musa, do you think that what Allah knows will happen could fail to happen?"Abu Harun is Umara bin Juwayn Abdi, who is "abandoned," as stated in Taqrib.
