The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was one day reviewing some horses, and Uyayna bin Hisn bin Badr al-Fazari was with him.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "I am a better judge of horses than you."Uyayna replied, "And I am a better judge of men than you."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "How is that?"Uyayna said, "The best of men are those who carry their swords on their shoulders, place their spears on the withers of their horses, and wear cloaks from among the people of Najd."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You have spoken falsely. Rather, the best of men are the men of Yemen. Faith is Yemeni, extending to Lakhm, Judham, and Amilah. Those eaten by Himyar are better than those who eat them. Hadramawt is better than Banu Harith. One tribe is better than another tribe, and one tribe is worse than another tribe. By Allah, I would not care if both Harith tribes perished. May Allah curse the four kings, Jamad, Mikhwas, Mishrah, and Abdaah, and their sister al-Amarradah."Then he said, "My Lord commanded me to curse Quraysh twice, so I cursed them, and He commanded me to pray for them twice, so I prayed for them twice."Then he said, "Usayya disobeyed Allah and His Messenger, except for Qays, Jadah, and Usayya."Then he said, "Aslam, Ghifar, Mazina, and those mixed with them from Juhayna are better in the sight of Allah
on the Day of Resurrection than Banu Asad, Tamim, Ghatafan, and Hawazin."Then he said, "The worst two tribes among the Arabs are Najran and Banu Taghlib, and the tribe with the most people in Paradise is Madhhij."
Narrated by Ahmad (19446, 19445) and Tabarani in Musnad Shamiyin (969), both by way of Abu Mughira (who is Abdullah bin Hajjaj Khawlani), who said, Safwan bin Amr (who is Saksaki) told us, Shurayh bin Ubayda told me, from Abdul-Rahman bin Aidh Azdi, from Amr bin Abasa Sulami, who said, then he related it. Its isnad is sahih.Hakim also narrated it (4/81) through another route from Abdul-Rahman bin Aidh Azdi, from Amr bin Abasa with the same wording, and he said, "This hadith has an unusual wording, but its isnad is sahih."His saying, "and what the Himyarites consumed is better than those who consume it" means that those who have passed are better than those who remain. His saying, "may Allah curse the four kings" is explained by Ibn Saad in his Tabaqat (5/13), where he mentions that they had come as a delegation to the Prophet ﷺ along with Ashath bin Qays, embraced Islam, and returned to their lands. They then apostatized and were killed on the day of Najir. They were called kings because each of them owned a valley along with everything in it.As for Najir, Yaqut mentions in his Mujam that it was an impregnable fortress in Yemen near Hadramaut, to which the people of the apostasy fled along with Ashath bin Qays during the days of Abu Bakr Siddiq . Ziyad bin Labid Bayadi besieged it until he conquered it by force, killing those inside and capturing Ashath bin Qays. This took place in the year 12 after the hijra.
