Uyayna bin Badr, Aqra bin Habis, and Alqama bin Ulatha gathered with the Prophet ﷺ. They began to boast about the noble standing of their tribes.The Prophet ﷺ said, "If you remain silent, I will tell you. The standing of Banu Amir is like a red, or dark brown, camel grazing on the tips of trees." The narrator said, I believe he said, "in a meadow." "As for Ghatafan, they are like a rugged hill that drives people away from it."Aqra bin Habis then asked, "And what about the standing of Banu Tamim?"He replied, "If only you had stayed silent."
اجتمع عند النبي ﷺ عيينة بن بدر، والأقرع ابن حابس، وعلقمة بن علاثة، فذكروا الجدود، فقال النبي ﷺ: إن سكتم أخبرتكم، جد بني عامر جمل أحمر أو آدم يأكل من أطراف الشجر- قال: وأحسبه قال: في روضة-، وغطفان أكمة خشناء تنفي الناس عنها. قال: فقال الأقرع بن حابس: فأين جد بني تميم؟ قال: لو سكت.
Ahmad narrated it in his Musnad (22935), and in Fadail al-Sahabah (1520), from Rawh bin Ubada, who said, Ali bin Suwayd (that is, Ibn Manjuf Sadusi) narrated to us, from Abdullah bin Burayda, from his father, who said, and then he related it. Its chain is sahih.His saying, "a red camel," means that he was distinguished among the people just as the red camel is among the finest of camels. This meaning is supported by the following hadith, where the Prophet ﷺ said, "You are from me and I am from you."
