Abdullah bin Zayd reported,

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ conquered Hunayn, he distributed the spoils, giving to those whose hearts were to be reconciled. Word reached him that the Ansar wished they had received what others had received. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and addressed them. He praised Allah and extolled Him, then said, "Company of the Ansar, did I not find you astray, and Allah guided you through me? Did I not find you in poverty, and Allah enriched you through me? Did I not find you divided, and Allah united you through me?"They kept replying, "Allah and His Messenger have been most gracious."He said, "Will you not answer me?"They said, "Allah and His Messenger have been most gracious."He said, "If you wished, you could say such and such, and the matter would be so and so," mentioning several things which Amr claimed he could not remember. Then he said, "Are you not pleased that the people should depart with sheep and camels while you depart with the Messenger of Allah to your dwellings? The Ansar are the inner garment and the people are the outer garment. Were it not for the migration, I would have been a man of the Ansar. If the people travelled through a valley or a mountain pass, I would travel through the valley and pass of the Ansar. After me, you will face preference shown to others, so be patient until you meet me at the Pool."
